What are the current editions of the Indiana Building Code?

Applicability (statewide, local, limited): STATEWIDE

The commercial code applies to all Class 1 structures, which include buildings used by the public, by employees or by 3 or more residential tenants. Commercial plan review, enforcement and inspection service covers most commercial buildings with limited exceptions. Enforcement of codes on those buildings that are exempt from the State plan review are not exempt from local permitting requirements. Enforcement (plan review & inspection) of one and two family dwelling codes is handled at the local level only.

State inspectors exist only for Elevators and Boilers/Pressure Vessels.

Notes:

Local jurisdictions are not allowed to adopt or enforce their own electrical code unless it has been approved by the Commission. The Office of the State Building Commissioner inspects all buildings and structures in areas without approved local building departments.

Indiana state wide building codes are minimum, however it is up to each local jurisdiction to adopt and enforce these code (home rule state).  In some parts of the state residential (one and two family) dwellings are built without plan review or inspection.
