Viva Las Vegas! The glitz and glamour associated with this desert oasis have become the stuff of folklore. What many first-time visitors to Sin City don’t realize, however, is how tightly-packed all of the famed Vegas hotels and hotspots are in one tiny area. The world-famous Las Vegas Strip is only one 4.2-mile stretch of land, yet it houses fifteen of the world’s 25 largest hotels, or a total of over 62,000 hotel rooms!
As you can imagine, having all these enormous resort properties on such a small parcel of land can make for some serious parking concerns. The Clark County Parking Study published in June 2015 offers a comprehensive, detailed look at the parking structures and surface lots of Las Vegas hotels and resorts. All the Las Vegas resorts located on the Strip fall within the jurisdiction of Paradise Township, while the local off-Strip resorts are located in Sunrise Manor Township. The parking study found that most, if not all, of the Strip resorts utilized parking structures whereas off-Strip local resorts tended to use surface parking lots.
The official Clark County parking requirements for a Las Vegas resort hotel are 6 parking spaces for every 1,000 square feet of all areas accessible to the public except for convention facilities, with an additional one space for every 1,000 square feet for convention facilities and any areas not accessible to the public. For smaller hotels, the requirements stipulate that there be one parking space for every guest room if the hotel has 500 or fewer rooms. For hotels with 500-1,000 rooms, there must be one parking space for every 2 guestrooms. Hotels with 1,000 rooms or more must provide one parking space for every 4 guest rooms. Additionally, if a restaurant is on the premises, there must be ten parking spots for every 1,000 square feet of restaurant area.
