Permitting 102: Do I Need A Permit?
We are often asked if specific construction projects require a building permit. These projects always require a building permit:
Structural Demolition
Installation
Construction
Erection
Enlargement
Alteration
Removing
Moving
Repair
Improving
Converting
In any building, structure, and/or any of the following items:
Storage Racks
Fire protection sprinkler systems
Walls or temporary partitions over 5′ 9″ high
Fences over 6′ 0″ high
Platforms, walks, or drives more than 30″ above grade
Metal shelving over 8′ 0″ high
Elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators and moving walks
Re-roofing
Excavations or fills in excess of 50 cubic yards, towers, or fuel islands
Awnings, canopies, or tents over 200 sq. ft.
Foundations
Retaining walls over 48″ high
Change of building use or occupancy
Signs (site specific regulations)
Temporary buildings or structures
