| State Building Codes | The State of South Dakota has adopted the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC), the 2015 International Mechanical Code (IMC), the 2015 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and the Wring Bulletin of South Dakota ( in reference to 2017 National Electrical Code, NEC).
South Dakota has designated the 2015 IRB for adoption thoughout the state (effective Mach 2015). The code adoption and enforcement is left up to local jurisdictions, which can amend, modify or delete any portion of the IBC before adopting it. Requiring automatic fire sprinklers in single family dwellings is prohibited. |
