Maryland building code is mandatory covering all building construction in state, however local jurisdictions may adopt amendments to the codes.

Adopted State Codes | As of 2/18/18, the State of Maryland has adopted the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC), the 2015 International Mechanical Code (IMC), the 2014 National Electric Code (NEC) and the 2012 National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC).
Additional 2015 i-codes adopted are: the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), and 2015 International Existing Building Code (IEBC).Other codes adopted but not as a standard across the state: 2015 International Plumbing Code (IPC), the International Fuel Gas Code and the International Private Sewage Disposal Code.
