Permit Place was recently tasked with a challenging project in San Jose, CA. Our client, Joey Restaurants, required assistance for their 16,000-square-foot renovation and expansion project, which include a variety of permits—Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire, Health, and Planning.
The vast size and scope of the Joey Restaurants’ location were beyond what the City of San Jose allows for express plan check reviews. Failing to get the project through the express plan check meant the approval process could take more than a year to complete.
Additionally, we had the responsibility of getting the client team ready for a pivotal meeting with the economic development department as part of getting approvals.
Through a series of strategic maneuvers, we successfully negotiated Joey Restaurants’ project through the expedited program. This was a significant victory as the restaurant can now leverage this program for the entire duration of its project, including post permit revisions.
Notably, we secured first round approvals for the electrical & fire permits, along with building approval for the initial demolition submittal round.
The utilization of our special arrangement with the City of San Jose, meant we were able to drastically reduce the projected approval timeline from a year to a significantly shorter period.
